Government Impact Team Update – April 21st, 2022

GOVERNMENT IMPACT TEAM UPDATE
Want to know how to get involved in impacting government in your community?

  • Biblical Citizenship class was a hit again as we learned to Tend His Garden
  • Please take the time to thank our Governor Ducey (at azgovernor.gov/engage or 602-542-4331).  He signed HB2492 which simply requires what our constitution requires: voter registrants must show proof of citizenship and sign that they are a US Citizen.
  • Let your voice be heard to your State Senator – ask them to vote YES on HB2617 – a comprehensive voter roll maintenance bill ensuring clean and current voter rolls so that only qualified electors are voting in our elections.  The House passed this bill already, so go to Member Roster (azleg.gov) then Find my Legislator if you do not know what Senator represents your district.
  • Standing up for our freedoms has paid off.  A landmark 1st Amendment decision by the US State Court of Appeals to protect Free Speech was ruled in favor of Dr. Meriweather, a professor at Shawnee Statue University in Ohio, March 2021.  This week Dr. Meriweather reached a drawn-out settlement with the University and was awarded $400,000 in damages and all attorney costs.  The Dr was terminated in 2018 for refusing to address his students in desired pronouns and was unwilling to address a male student as a female when the student demanded he do so.  This will become a First Amendment precedent for other learning institutions and their staff.  Kudos to the Alliance Defending Freedom for this victory.
  • Register to vote!  If you are a US Citizen, 18 years of age or older by August 2nd, and not registered to vote at your current address…Please make sure you get registered to vote by July 1st to support our next Primary Election on August 2nd.  We will have forms, computers and other resources to assist you in registering on Sunday April 24th after church.  Please watch for that in the lobby.
