1 John 2:1-14 When we sin, and folks we do sin (we don’t want to… it’s not our lifestyle any longer… BUT we are still being sanctified). But, when we commit a sin, God has provided a way for us to reconcile our fellowship with Him and it is through Jesus Christ, who is the propitiation for our sins (the sacrifice, bearing the wrath of God against sin and thereby turning God’s wrath into favor.) JESUS IS OUR ADVOCATE! He does this for us. And so, we KNOW that we have an ADVOCATE because we KNOW Jesus. John is talking about an assurance that doesn’t result from mere head knowledge (some mental ascent or simply a set of doctrines); rather, John is talking about an assurance that comes from a life lived with Jesus.
